What is a Critical Incident?
A reportable Behavioral Health Critical Incident is defined as:
Any sentinel event defined as an “unexpected” occurrence involving death or serious physical or psychological injury. Critical Incident reporting is a mechanism to ensure the health and safety of State of New Mexico consumers who are receiving behavioral health services. Reporting facilitates a process of ongoing evaluation to address concerns that help improve service quality by identifying important issues. All providers are required to report critical incidents. Only sentinel events are reported directly to the Human Services Department - Behavioral Health Services Division. Refer to the Critical Incident Reporting Protocol (2018) for additional information and reporting resources
